Abstract
1,116,219. Casting processes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. 22 June, 1965 [17 Dec., 1964], No. 51448/64. Heading B3F. In a method of casting tubes in which molten metal is caused to rise into a tubular die 4, by gas pressure means, and is held in the die by the gas pressure for a sufficient time to allow metal to freeze to a required thickness on to the wall of the die, the molten metal core is oscillated axially in the die during the required freezing time, the residual molten core then being removed by the release of the gas pressure. The oscillation of the molten metal core may be effected by applying a varying pressure differential between the ends of the die, or by superimposing a suitable oscillating pressure on the static pressure which forces the metal into the die. The frequency of the oscillation of the molten core is between 0À2 and 1À0 cycles per second with an amplitude of not more than 6 inches.
