Abstract

885,757. Casting processes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. Feb. 10, 1960 [May 13, 1959], No. 16435/59. Class 83 (1). Tubular metal hollows are made by dipping one end of a forming die into a bath of molten metal, causing metal to rise in the die to a desired height and after timing the freezing to give a suitable wall thickness, allowing the molten core to flow back into the bath. The metal may be forced into the die 4 by gas pressure on the surface of the melt 3, or it may be drawn into the die by suction. Inert gas in a vessel 6 expands into the cast hollow when pressure is released and prevents oxidation. Specification 793,356 is referred to.
