Abstract
1,111,261. Ventilating. A. I. R. (AIR CONDITIONING & REFRIGERATION) Ltd. 17 Dec., 1965 [24 March, 1965], No. 12384/65. Heading F4V. Apparatus for extracting air or fumes from a plurality of rooms in a building comprises a plurality of risers each of which is common to a plurality of extraction points and is connected at its top to a common duct and an extraction fan unit connected to the common duct. The fan unit discharges to atmosphere through a pipe which is surmounted by a cover. Flap valves are provided at the top of each riser and are adjusted so that the degree of opening of each valve is proportional to the length of its associated riser. Each extraction point comprises a box having a mesh cover behind which is located a variable aperture pre-set air-flow control member, all the extraction points in the building being arranged in the same vertical line. The fan unit contains either two axial flow fans arranged in series or two centrifugal fans arranged in parallel, one of the fans being normally operative, and control means for starting the normally inoperative fan in the event of failure of the other. The common duct is lined with sound absorbent material and connected to the fan unit by a sound insulating connection.
