A ventilation system for a ship comprises a plurality of branch ducts leading from a fan duct and each terminating in an air distributer casing 11 having a valve 17 apportioning the air flow between a cabin outlet 13 and an excess air outlet 14 to a ceiling void 15, so that the cabin air flow from one casing 11 is independent of that from the other casings. In another embodiment, the valve 17 is replaced by a flap pivoting between two outlets at right-angles, and the excess air outlet may lead to a passageway.
