Abstract
1,110,575. Discharge apparatus. INTERPROBE Inc. 4 Aug., 1965, No. 33344/65. Heading H1X. [Also in Division F4] A solid body at a temperature in excess of that of the ambient atmosphere is cooled by directing toward the body an elongated member connected to the negative pole of a D.C. source exceeding 10,000 volts and spaced from the body at a distance exceeding that at which arcing would occur. It is believed that a continuous discharge from the elongated member or probe produces cooling by inhibiting and possibly stopping electron movement in the heated body, which may be the nozzle of a gas torch, a tube, rod or plate heated by a gas torch, an electric heating element, or a shorting wire in an electrical circuit. If electrically conductive, the body is connected to the positive pole of the source.
