Abstract
1,191,733. Preparing samples for X-ray analysis. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 July, 1967 [9 July, 1966], No. 31121/67. Heading B1X. [Also in Division C1] Samples for X-ray fluorescence analysis are produced by a method comprising heating a mixture of the substance to be analysed and a substance from which a vitreous body is formed by melting and subsequent cooling, in or on a holder of electrically conductive material, until the mixture is melted, then cooling the vitreous body so produced, an electric current being passed through the body towards the holder while the body is being cooled until the body no longer adheres to the holder. The current can be passed by means of an a.c. or d.c. spark discharge or a voltage flash-over; if a spark discharge is used, a stream of gas, for example air, may be provided around the discharge.
