Abstract
979,476. Electric heating &c. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 22, 1963 [Sept. 5, 1962], No. 34046/62. Heading H5H. [Also in Division B1] Zone melting apparatus comprises a tube A, the outer surface of which has a conductive coating of high electrical resistance contacted by spaced conductive bands B connected to sockets 1 to 72. The tube A has a diameter not exceeding two inches and is made of plastic, glass, ceramic or other heatresistant material. The sockets 1 to 72 are connected to a switching device (not shown) so that an electrical current may be made to pass between different contacts by conduction through the coating thereby generating heat at desired positions along the longitudinal axis of the tube A.
