Abstract

1,110,204. Vehicle suspensions; railway vehicle undercarriages. AVON RUBBER CO. Ltd. 19 Nov., 1964 [21 Nov., 1963], No. 46029/63. Headings B7D and B7L. [Also in Division F2] An auxiliary suspension spring assembly, particularly for connecting a main bearing spring 1 to a railway waggon, comprises two springs 6, 8 arranged to work in series in compression the spring 8 having a larger deflection/ load ratio than the spring 6. As shown in Fig. 1, the spring 6 composed of three concentric rings of rubber formed on both sides of a metal former, is located between circular ridges on the opposed faces of upper and intermediate circular plates 4, 7 the spring 8 consisting of a rubber ring and a metal former, being positioned between the plate 7 and a circular bottom plate 9 having a recess which receives the upper of a pair of nuts 10, 10 on a suspension bolt 2. The latter passes through the springs 6, 8 and the plates 4, 7, 9, and is connected to an eye of the main suspension spring 1 a bracket 3 on the waggon resting upon the upper plate 4 which carries a guard 5. In a modification, Fig. 2, the lower spring comprises a rubber bush 12 which acts in shear.
