Abstract

500,004. Resilient supports. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. Feb. 16, 1938, No. 4764. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1937. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient support comprises rubber members bonded between metal parts and arranged in series such that in all degrees of freedom at least one of the rubber members will be freely stressed in shear when a force is applied. As shown in Fig. 3, two channel members 1, 2 are connected together by rubber pads 3 adhesively attached to the flanges and a plate 5 is supported on a rubber block 4 adhesively attached thereto and to the bottom of the channel 2. The rubber may be extended at 7 and attached to the side of the plate 5 to form limiting abutments. The channel 2 may be reversed or be replied by an I-section member. Fig. 4 shows a circular support comprising cylinders 1, 2 connected by rubber 3, a plate 4 being welded to the cylinder 2. A rubber pad 6 is adhesively attached to the plates 4, 5, and a lip 11 forms a limiting abutment. The free surface of the lip 11 may be inclined or curved relatively to the surface of the sleeve 1 so as to provide an abutment which becomes harder as the blow increases. Air may be pumped into the space 10 through a valve 9 to regulate the supporting pressure. The metal parts may be replaced by hard rubber or synthetic plastics.
