Abstract

535,096. Indiarubber and like springs. SOC. ITALIANA PIRELLI. Sept. 27, 1939, No. 26746. Convention date, Oct. 13, 1938. [Class 108 (iii)] A spring, in which a rubber intermediary is subjected to shear stresses by the relative motion of metal or rigid parts bonded thereto, has transverse rubber sections 1, 2, Fig. 1, mounted between metal cylinders 7, 8. The sections 1, 2 are spaced apart by an annular member 9, and do not contact at their maximum deformation. In an alternative construction, Fig. 3, the rubber elements 16, 17, 18, 19 are arranged in series formation between metal rings 20 and 21, 21 and 22, 22 and 23, and 23 and 24, respectively. The deformation of the spring due to a force applied between the cylinders 20, 24 is the sum of the deformations of the individual rubber elements. Buffering rings are provided between the cylinders 20, 22 and 24, 22, and comprise metal rings 26, 27 with intervening rubber rings 28.
