Abstract

530,630. Shock-absorbers ; buffers. SOC. ITALIANA PIRELLI. June 15, 1939, No. 17533. Convention date, July 6, 1938. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (iii)] A rubber spring particularly applicable for vehicle suspensions and generally as a buffer, consists of rubber rings, strips or like elements 3 ... 14 arranged in two or more sets of respectively different number of elements to present a stripwise arangement between metal plates 1, 2 so that the number of rings compressed increases progressively as the load on the buffer increases. As shown, the rubber rings are arranged in three sets and are separated by rings 15, 16, 17, &c. of metal, rubberized cotton fabric, or rubberized wire net. On applying pressure the outermost column of rings is immediately compressed, whilst the two inner columns are compressed successively as the applied pressure is increased. The rubber elements may have a cross section other than annular. The elements may be arranged non- symmetrically about the longitudinal axis of the buffer.
