Abstract
948,176. Springs. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 25, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 26978/61. Heading F2S. A rubber-metal spring, which is subjected predominantly to shearing stress during operation, is constructed to relieve the outer edge zones of tensile stresses. As shown in Fig. 4 rubber 3 is first vulcanised between metal plates 1, 2 having out-turned edges which, during the final stages in the spring manufacture, are pressed together until each plate 1, 2 has a plane surface, Fig. 5, and the edge zones of the rubber 3 are pre-compressed. In a modification, Figs. 6, 7, intermediate plates 9, 10 and the outer metal plates 1, 2 are initially all plane. After vulcanisation of the rubber 3 the edges of the two plates 9, 10 are spread and held apart by wedges 12 secured in position by bolts or rivets 13. The spring is preferably of rectangular shape.
