498,885. Vehicle spring-suspensions. EVERNDEN, H. I. F. July 13, 1937, No. 19453. [Class 108 (ii)] In an independent wheel suspension for a vehicle comprising a link member B<2> connected at one end to the wheel assembly and rigid at the other end with a shaft C, the bearings B<1> of the shaft C are rigid with the vehicle frame and the shaft C is coupled with a frictional or hydraulic shock damper the stationary part of which is anchored resiliently to the vehicle frame. In the example shown the shock damper is frictional and comprises a pair of plates C<3> and C4 splined to the end of shaft C and an intermediate plate D anchored by a strap D<3> to the frame. Friction washers E are interposed between the three plates and the whole is placed under compression by a dished washer C<5> and nut C<6>. The arrangement with a hydraulic shock damper is similar : the casing of the damper is suspended on the end of the shaft C and anchored by a V-shaped torque member G<1> to the frame. The connection of the strap D<3> or torque member G<1> with the frame is resilient and comprises a rubber bush G<6> interposed between the strap D<3> or member G<1> and a bolt G3 carried in a bracket G<4> on the frame.
