Abstract
513,061. Resilient mountings; mounting motors. TRIGGS, W. W. (Lord, H. C.). March 19, 1938, No. 8545. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a resilient mounting of the kind comprising a plate member 39 perforated to receive a member 41 and a rubber element overlapping the edges of the opening in the plate member and surrounding the member 41 and bonded to both, the wall portion 42 of the rubber element is harder or reinforced to render it less resilient to deformation than the central portion of the rubber. As shown in Fig. 3 the upper surface 43 of the element is convex and the lower surface 44 is concave and an engine bracket 45, 46 is secured to the mounting by plate 48 and bolt 47, the extent to which the bolt is tightened varying the shear zone of the mounting. Under normal load the rubber is in free shear and as the load increases, the engagement of the plate 46 increases outwardly on the upper surface of the rubber thus reducing the resiliency and finally contacts with the wall 42 which is placed under compression. In Figs. 4, 5 a pair of mountings 8 are attached to the bell-housing of the transmission and to a cross-member. The front end of the engine is supported on a strut 35 by mountings 36. The rear end of the engine may be carried upon a single mounting. Specifications 447,639, 482,188 and 482,260 are referred to.
