Abstract

645,240. Railway-vehicle undercarriages; rubber springs. ANDRE RUBBER CO., Ltd., and MARSH, S. W. June 24, 1948, No. 17011. [Classes 103(vi) and 108(iii)] The centre pivot of the underframe bolster of a railway vehicle comprises a unitary rubber element bonded to substantially parallel opposed surfaces presented, respectively, by an annular metal plate having an integral depending web, and by a recessed upper member of the underframe centre pivot, the rubber element being in the form of an annular cushion, and the arrangement being such that whatever the direction of movement of the vehicle body the loads are transmitted by the cushion partly in compression and partly in shear. As shown, the rubber. element 13 is bonded to the upper surface of the top member 3 of the centre pivot, and to the lower surface of an annular plate 9 below the gusset plate 6. The plate 9 is provided with an integral interrupted depending web forming a series of tongues 11, to which a check plate 16 is secured by nuts and bolts 19. The upper surface of the cushion 13 is formed with two concentric series of arcuate recesses 20, and the plate 9 is formed with corresponding slots 21 disposed on opposite sides of the tongues 11. The element 13 is bonded to the heads of bolts 14 passing through bosses 10 welded to the plate 9 and uniting the plates 6, 9 and the bogie bolster 1.
