Abstract

1,110,122. Electro-photography. COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA. April 22, 1965 [April 23, 1964], No.17129/65. Heading G2H. Developed photographic images are formed on a surface by allowing localized charges to be dissipated (e.g. by dark adaption), imagewise exposing to form image-forming electrical fields thereon, and developing these fields by applying particulate marking means from an electrically insulating carrier liquid, there being maintained on the surface during development a thin layer of a material which is absorbed, adsorbed or chemisorbed by the surface and which extends the image-forming fields by transmitting the charges from the surface to a higher level above the surface. The surface may be that of a layer of photoconductive particles in a binder, of metal (e.g. Ag, Pb or Zn) or of Se. The field-extending layer may be 0À1 to 1 Á thick and may consist of a liquid hydrocarbon, ketone, aldehyde, acid or ester applied before or after exposure by deposition from a solution by evaporation of solvent or by application to the surface followed by removal of excess liquid by a roller. The surface may optionally be uniformly electrostatically charged before exposure, and/or the developed image rinsed with carrier liquid.
