Abstract
1,223,658. Developing electrostatic images. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. Feb.21, 1969 [Feb.21, 1968], No.9537/69. Heading G2H. A process of developing electrostatic latent images comprises applying to the image bearing surface 11 Fig.2 a dispersion of toner in an insulating liquid 5 using a development electrode 2 adjacent the surface 11, and subsequently applying an electric field between the electrode and recording member which causes excess toner not forming part of the developed image on the surface 11 to be electro-phoretically attracted to the electrode 2. In operation, a tank 3 is filled, to submerge the electrode 2, with developer liquid 5 containing toner particles 40. Recording member 1 is placed beneath electrode 2 with its' conductive backing connected to a circuit 4. A switch S 1 is closed during development effected by electrostatic attraction of toner particles to negatively charged areas 10. Switch S 1 is then opened and switch S 2 is closed to produce an electric field cancelling the field created by the image, thereby attracting to the electrode 2 particles 40 not forming part of the developed image. The process may be used in a camera, Fig. 3 having a strip 1 of recording material charged before exposure through an objective L. A donor strip 2 carries a thin pasty layer of insulating liquid developer. A strip carrying developer pods may replace the donor strip.
