Abstract
1378798 Electro-photographic process RCA CORPORATION 11 Sept 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 42010/72 Heading G2H A toner particle image 40 is formed on the surface of a photo-conductive member 30 by selective removal of part of a uniform coating of toner particles, consequent on exposure to electromagnetic radiation. The toner particles are magnetic, and adhere electrostatically to the surface of the unexposed member, but when the member is exposed and part of its surface loses its initial charge over the conductivity image so formed the particles there fly off towards a magnet 42. Preferably the member 30 is made up of a transparent substrate 32 of glass or a plastics material, a transparent electrically conductive layer 34 and a transparent photoconductive layer 36, and is exposed through its base. Alternatively the exposure may be made through the toner particle coating. The developed image may be fixed on the member 30 or transferred to a copy sheet, or may be used as a transparency to make photographic prints or for projection without fixing, in which case it can be removed by wiping or exposure to light to allow re-use of the member 30.
