Abstract
1,108,882. Permanent- and electro-magnet polepieces. NEWPORT INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 19 Oct., 1964 [24 Oct., 1963], No. 42073/63. Heading H1P. In a permanent or electro-magnet suitable for nuclear magnetic resonance investigations and having two mutually opposed coaxial polepieces 11 on whose inner facing ends are planar pole faces 14, each face 14 is carried by a part 24 which is separate from and rotatable about the longitudinal axis of a fixed body part of the polepiece and has a clamping surface (26), Fig. 4, which is slightly non-parallel with its pole face 14, each body part or a part carried thereby has a clamping surface (18), Fig. 2, which is slightly inclined from normal to the longitudinal axis of the part, and means, e.g. a bolt 28, secures the clamping surfaces in mutual contact. Thus, when the bolt is loose, the two faces 14 can be adjusted to exact parallelism by angularly moving the part 24 by means of a tool inserted in holes (35), Fig. 4. The pole face 14 may be formed on a pole tip part 31 screwed to the adaptor 24, or on the pole tip disclosed in Specification 1,047,221, whereby a further adjustment is provided. The fixed body part may have a non inclined end in which case a second adaptor 24 is interposed.
