Abstract

1,103,377. Electromagnet. P. D. COOK. 19 July, 1966 [25 Nov., 1965], No. 50221/65. Heading HIP. A yoke 1 of magnetic material has mounted therein two polepiece supports 2 and 3, each of which carries a polepiece 6 surrounded by coils 4 and 5 respectively. The gap 7 between the polepieces may be adjusted, using the hand wheels 8. The supports have a pin-and-slot arrangement to prevent them rotating. An adjustable hollow rose shim 15 is screwed on to the body portion 11 of the polepieoe, the polepiece screwing into the support. A hole extends through both supports and polepieoes for viewing or illuminating a specimen held between the poles. Alternatively a polepiece having a blind threaded hole may be attached to one of the supports using a bolt passing through the support to engage the blind hole.
