Abstract
563,333. Work holders. NEILL & CO. (SHEFFIELD), Ltd., J., and BOWER, W. L. April 19, 1943, No. 6262. [Class 60] [Also in Groups II and XXXVI] A magnetic work holder, separator, &c. comprises one or more stationary permanent magnets and one or more rotatable permanent magnets with their respective polepieces' alternating in position to build up a supporting surface, the rotatable magnet or magnets being operable from an " on " to an " off " position. In one form, a work holder comprises a pair of fixed magnets 3, Fig. 6, flanking a rotatable magnet 5. The polepieces 2, 4, Fig. 8, are fitted with interengaging fingers spaced apart by fillings of white metal. Fig. 9 shows a magnetic separator with the parallel polepieces 2, 4 set at an inclination to the short surface 12. The combination of rotatable and fixed permanent magnets may also be applied to a magnetic crack detector. Specification 429,199 is referred to.
