Abstract

1,107,084. Hinges. W. A. W. JORGENSEN. 2 July, 1965 [23 July, 1964; 15 March, 1965], No. 28199/65. Heading E2F. A concealed hinge for a cabinet door comprises two links 16, 17 pivoted to opposite sides of limbs 20, 35 of a door plate 14 and a cabinet plate 15 respectively, thus allowing a certain amount of overriding of the links as door 10 is opened. In the embodiment shown, plate 14 is attached to the rear face of the door and has a limb 19 abutting one wall of a groove 23 in the door and a limb 20 integral with but off-set from limb 19, to be central in groove 23. Plate 15 has three mutually perpendicular limbs 34, 35, 36 and is attached to the corner of a cabinet partition 11. In the top hinge 12, a lip 41 on limb 36 of plate 15 supports limb 20 of plate 14, in the closed position, to remove the strain from the links 16, 17, the chamfered edge 27 aiding entry of lip 41. In other embodiments a spring may be employed to urge the door to an open and/or closed position, and a lug on an extended portion of one link may combine with a set of notches on one hinge plate to hold the door in various positions. In the various embodiments, the hinge plates may be stamped from sheet metal and corresponding plates may be designed to abut each other in the closed and/or open positions.
