1,106,635. Feeding tobacco. SERVICE D'EXPLOITATION INDUSTRIELLE DES TABACS ET DES ALLUMETTES. 10 March, 1967 [14 March, 1966], No. 11264/67. Heading A2C. [Also in Division B8] A distributer of the type wherein tobacco in the form of shreds or fragments is supplied at the feed end (top, as shown) in an inhomogeneous stream and is delivered at the product end 6 in a uniform stream of predetermined cross-section and comprising also a duct provided with at least one shouldered portion 7 corresponding to a reduction in transverse crosssection and a device, a paddle wheel 14, for accelerating the stream associated with the portion 7, the wheel 14 is sited within the shouldered portion 7. As shown in the Figures, which are cross-sectional views about two vertical planes at right angles, a plurality of shouldered portions 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. . . . 10<SP>1</SP> are each provided with a paddle wheel 14, 14<SP>1</SP> . . . . 20<SP>1</SP>. The wheels of a same pair 14 and 14<SP>1</SP> &c., are rotated at the same speed but in opposite directions, wheels 14, 15 &c., rotating clockwise as viewed. The speed of rotation of each pair below the first pair 14, 14<SP>1</SP> exceeds that of the pair immediately above it by a factor that is somewhat greater than the factor by which the crosssectional area of the distributer is reduced at the corresponding shoulder portion 7, 7<SP>1</SP> &c. The distributer may, for example, be used for feeding a torrefier or for dosing cut tobacco, in which latter case the starting or stopping of either all or some of the wheels 14 . . . . 201 can be controlled by photoelectric or microswitch detection of the presence or absences of tobacco in the duct sections 2, 3 . . . . 6. Mention is also made of a distributer comprising an open passageway, shaping being effected at the sides and the acceleration devices comprising endless belts or cylinders.
