Abstract

1,106,590. Plugboards. AMP Inc. 29 Nov., 1966, No. 53369/66. Heading H2E. A two-way plugboard comprises a main panel 5 sandwiched between two further panels 16, each panel comprising an array of apertures. Contact members 7 are inserted in selected apertures 6 of the main panel 5 to extend outwardly from either side and through corresponding apertures 17 of the further panels 16. The contact members 7 on a particular side of the main panel 5 are selectively interconnected to define a programme so that the plugboard assembly carries a programme on each side of the main panel 5. A contact member 7 is located in an aperture 6 by a flange 10 which abuts the main panel 5 and a C-shaped clip 14 which fits into groove 12 in the contact member. Panel 16 lies flush with the edge of the frame 4 supporting the main panel 5 and is held against further motion towards main panel 5 by a flange 11 against which it abuts. Conductors 15 (Fig. 2, not shown), interconnect the selected contact members 7 to define a programme, the conductors (15) being protected by the panel 16. Legs 20 allow the plugboard assembly to be stored, and protect the contact sections 8 and main panel 5 against damage. In a modification of the plugboard assembly (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), contact member (7<SP>1</SP>) having a contact section (8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP>) at either end is used where both programmes utilize a common aperture. The main panel (5<SP>1</SP>) may take the form of a printed circuit board, interconnection of the selected contact members being achieved by circuit paths (18) and circular metallic segments (19) disposed at the periphery of apertures (6<SP>1</SP>) defining the programme.
