Abstract

1,096,082. Cross-bar switches. AMP Inc. April 18, 1966 [May 6. 1965], No. 16796/66. Heading H2E. In a crossed-bar distributer, contacts 26, housed in grooves in two insulating boards 12 and 14, each comprise two parallel blades (26a, 26b, Fig. 2, not shown) joined by spaced rings (26c). The rings of each contact are held against the floor of its groove, in one of the boards, by projections formed on the other board, the boards being held together by an encircling frame which is riveted to them. A pin which is inserted through an aperture 16 in one of the boards, is tightly engaged by a contact of each layer, spreading the resilient blades of each contact. The pin is preferably resilient with an open helical seam, or alternatively is rigid and may incorporate a diode or other component to be connected between the layers of contacts. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown), each contact has flanges (27d) formed on its upper edges for centring it in its groove and each ring has a springy tongue (27<SP>1</SP>).
