Abstract
110,484. Whitehouse, G. H., and Cook, A. March 26, 1917. Lathes.-Figs. 3 and 4 show a sectional elevation and a plan, respectively, of a part of a screwcutting lathe. The tool b is carried in a compound slide-rest of ordinary construction. The traverse of the rest is effected by a face-cam e, carried by the rest, rotating in contact with a fixed abutment l which is adjusted along the bed by a serew q. The quick return stroke is effected by a weight or spring. The tool is held up to the work by an edge cam p and at the end of the traverse is withdrawn quickly by a spring n or by a weight. The tool is fed forward to adjust the depth of cut by rotating the feed-screw s by means of a ratchet-nut and a pawl x, Fig. 6, actuated by a lever m rocked by a stop u. The depth of cut is determined by a stop l which holds the pawl out of engagement with the ratchet nut.
