Abstract

114,352. Pick, W. H. April 25, 1917. Lathes.-In a thread-milling machine, the cutter is carried by a beltdriven stationary spindle 7, and the work-spindle 10 is rotated by toothed gearing 14, 16, 17 and moved axially by means of a copy screw-thread 18 adapted to engage a sectional nut 19 attached to a hinged arm 20 by which it is disengaged to return the work. The headstock 4 mav be traversed by screw-and-nut mechanism by a hand-wheel 28. The depth of the cut may be determined by an adjustable stop. The work spindle may be returned automatically by a spring. In a modification, the headstock 4 is mounted to rock upon an axis, and is set forward by a screw and hand-wheel up to an adjustable stop. A spring returns the headstock.
