The bracket e is angularly adjustable by means of a bolt f, Fig. 4, to suit the obliquity of the thread of a screw-cutting hob and a nut n<1>. engaged by the lead-screw n for giving the work a helical movement, is provided with an index plate p adapted to be locked by a hand-lever p' for operating on multi-thread hobs. The driving-shaft j has a cam i engaging an adjustable thrust plate on the arm b and a cam s operating on a lever r attached to a quadrant r' which moves the slide q, pawl o<1>, and ratchet o. The ratchet is mounted on the spindle m, which also carries the work d and the lead-screw n and has inclined teeth to agree with those of the work in the case of a screw-cutting hob. The tool a may be adjusted by a hand-wheel k.
