Abstract

1,100,275. Gas-scrubber. LODGE-COTTRELL Ltd. 16 Feb., 1965 [4 March, 1964; 19 May, 1964; 17 Sept., 1964], Nos. 9051/64, 20509/64 and 37978/64. Addition to 940,930. Heading B1R. A gas-scrubber comprising a conduit in which liquid is sprayed into a gas passing therethrough has two baffles 86 and 88 pivotally mounted on parallel, adjacent axes 96 and 98 and movable as indicated to vary the crosssectional area of the gas flow passage in the conduit. Preferably as shown the conduit is of venturi-shape and the baffles are arranged in the throat portion thereof. The conduit may be for rectangular or circular cross-section. In a modification both baffles are mounted on the same axis and the baffles may be angled or curved and associated with a second pair of baffles downstream movable in a direction opposite to that in which the first baffles move. Wide conduits may be subdivided by vertical partitions and a pair of baffles arranged in each sub-division of the conduit. Alternatively a series of pairs of baffles may be arranged across a wide conduit.
