Abstract

Shorn twisted yarn is made by twisting the yarn in a 2:1 twister of the outflow type and then bringing the twisted yarn into contact with a shearing or cutting head before it is spooled or wound up. When the twister has a single flyer the yarn is led to the shearing head without changing direction on leaving the eye defining the apex of the balloon. When the twisting means has two flyers and carries two yarn packages, it may take the form described in Specification 1,094,161, and yarn is led to the shearing head along the axis of the flyer last engaging the yarn. The yarn is pulled off the packages by haul pulleys between the shearing head and the take-up.
