Special yarns, producing; spindle apparatus; flyer frames; building motions; winding-machines; twist tubes and like twisters.-In spinning artificial silk, a natural silk thread 2, comprising one or more filaments from cocoons 3, 4, is impregnated with a cellulose substance at 8, which coagulates on the surface as it passes over guides 10, 12, after which it is reeled on a bobbin 18. A flyer 14 may be used, or the yarn wound direct on the bobbin from a guide 29. A building motion consists of a groove 25 on a drum 26 mounted on a shaft 27 and driven from a shaft 28. The groove 25 engages a pin 24 on a carriage 22 which raises and lowers the bobbin 18. A stop motion 13 is provided. The silk filaments are twisted together at a spinning nozzle 5, and are dried in a vessel 7 which may contain drying liquid or heated air, or both may be used. A cellulose substance, collodion from nitro-cellulose, cellulose acetate, viscose or the like may be used. The container 8 may have top and bottom discs 31, 32, Fig. 2, provided with eccentrically mounted thread guides 34, and may be separately driven by cord pulleys.
