Drafting-apparatus comprises a front roller, e.g. a seed-crushing roller 17 in a pivotal support 32, a number of other rollers arranged behind the front roller, a roller arm 23 above the rollers and pivoted at 24 at the rear, a locking-member 35 connecting the front end of the arm to the pivotal support, spring-means between the arm and at least one of the other rollers, the arrangement being such that the reaction of the locking member tends to turn the pivotal support and exerts a pressure on the roller mounted therein against a cooperating roller. There are two roller arms one at each end of the rollers; the top front roller is mounted at each end in a support 32 which can pivot about an axis 33; a rigid bar 34 connects the two supports and each arm has pivoted thereto a hook 35 which engages over the front of the bar. The position of the loading-spring(s), e.g. 31, may be varied, while to alter the pressure exerted by the front roller without changing the springs, the pivotal axes of the crushing-roller-supports and the locking-members and the bar may all be adjustable as to position.
