Abstract
1,092,309. Respiratory masks. SOC. DE FABRICATION D'INSTRUMENTS DE MESURE (S.F.I.M.) Aug. 23, 1965 [Dec. 31, 1964], No. 36053/65. Heading A5T. A breathing apparatus for aircrews, as illustrated with reference to the drawings, includes a mask 1 having an exhalation valve 4 and an elastic return system urging the valve towards its closing position, wherein the force which the return system applies to the valve and which must be overcome by the pressure within the mask before the valve opens has a first constant force component given by a spring 35 alone, said spring being independent of any gas pressure, to which first force component, above a predetermined altitude limit, is added a second variable force component directly proportional to the magnitude of the supply excess pressure required in the mask. The second component of the return system may be obtained by providing a chamber with an elastically deformable wall 44 which is connected through a pipe 41, 42 to an excess pressure take-off, i.e. chamber 16 and bellows 17. Figure 2 shows the exhalation valve alone and Figure 1 shows the assembly of mask, exhalation valve and the damping and variableflexibility return device associated with the valve.
