Abstract

In a warp knit fabric wherein each stitch comprises two yarns, one yarn is knit with a longer loop length and has latent crip developable by treating the fabric in boiling water. The filaments of the crimpable yarn produce an average of 3 to 12 crimps for stitch when treated; the other yarn may also be crimpable. In specific examples the fabric is knit with a nylon 66 yarn and a second crimpable yarn comprising a sheath of nylon 66 and a core of a copolyamide of nylon 66 and nylon 6 or nylon 6I. Immediately before the fabric is placed in boiling water it is cooled to below 10 DEG C or preferably below 0 DEG C.
