Abstract

1,230,654. Papermaker's felt. SCAPA-PORRITT Ltd. 16 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 49069/68. Heading D1R. A paper machine needled felt comprises a woven base cloth having ordinary machine direction yarns and cross-machine direction yarns of which some have at least a part thereof which is insoluble in aqueous media and some have at least a part thereof which is soluble in aqueous media and one or more batts of fibres needled to one or both sides of the base cloth. The soluble constituents of the felt may then be dissolved out and the felt subjected to further treatments, e.g. stretching, drying and surface-singeing. The fibres may be of nylon or wool. The yarns in the crossmachine direction may comprise a core of insoluble thread, e.g: polyester and a soluble thread, e.g. polyvinylalcohol twisted thereabout. Alternatively the two threads may be twisted together with a low degree of twist or some of the cross-machine direction yams may be composed entirely of insoluble thread and some entirely of soluble thread.
