A horizontally slidable door or window of the kind claimed and described in Specification 1,037,530 in which two or more sashes are flush when the window or door is closed one of the sashes moving rearwardly and then sliding horizontally behind the other sashes to open the window comprises a locking and swivellrotated through 90‹ rotates through bevel gearing roller combination in which a lever ing 7 on shaft 6 the guide roller 3 from the locking position parallel to the window in which it cooperates with a pin 15 to prevent rearward movement, into a position at right angles to the window to allow the sash to run along a transverse guide to the rear to a position where the roller 3 is rotated through 90‹ parallel to the window for the horizontal sliding movement, the rotation of the lever also withdraw- - ing the upper guide pin 10 from its locking position by means of a bevel wheel 7 and crank 8 and link 9.
