Abstract

626,402. Windows. GROSS, S. May 8, 1947, No. 12441. [Class 20(iii)] A window comprises a stationary frame 10 having at least one sash pivotally mounted therein on a vertical or horizontal axis parallel to one edge of the frame in such a manner that it can move either inwardly or outwardly, and provided with mechanically operated means for moving the sash about its axis from a point remote from the axis. In the form shown in Fig. 2 two casements 11, 12 and a sash 13 pivoted about an upper horizontal axis are provided, each sash having its own operating means which comprises a crank handle operating a bevel wheel 18 which rotates the hinge pin a through a second bevel 19 and worm gears 21, 22, 24, 25. The windows are locked in their closed position and draughts are excluded by arranging for portions 26, 27, Figs. 2 and 3, 30, 32, 33, Fig. 2, of the stationary frame to slide therein transversely of the frame so that these portions on being inwardly projected engage rabbets 28, 29, Fig. 3, 31, 34, 35, Fig. 2, in the sashes. Simultaneous movement of all these portions is effected by linkages 42, 61 &c. operated by a lever on a sleeve concentrically mounted about one of the window-operating cranks, the sleeve being provided with a disc having an eccentrically disposed pin engaging between two projections 42a on one of the links 42, and a pawl being provided to hold the sleeve in the desired position.
