Abstract
1,086,914. Ion sources. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Oct. 15, 1965 [Oct. 26, 1964], No. 43658/64. Heading H1D. In a duoplasmatron ion source for supplying negative ions the axes of the apertures of the anode and extractor electrodes 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> are offset from the axis of the aperture of the intermediate or " compressor " electrode 2<SP>1</SP> so that the negative ions are drawn from an outer region of the arc discharge established between the compressor and anode electrodes. The anode aperture is within a tungsten insert 8<SP>1</SP> which is recessed a small distance into the anode.
