Abstract
1,020,197. Ion sources. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 17, 1964 [Nov. 20, 1963; Feb. 12, 1964], No. 46758/64. Heading H1D. A porous tungsten wall 5 of an anode for an ion source is provided with a coating 6 of one or more of the metals Ir, Ru, Re and Os. The coating may be from 100 to 5000 thick. The anode further comprises a Mo body 2 containing an alkali-metal, e.g. Rb, compound 4, and having a space for a heating filament 3. The ion source further comprises an accelerating electrode 7, an ion-optical system 8, and a collector 10 with an absorptive layer 9. The collector 10 may be omitted if the envelope 1 communicates with a further vacuum space in which the ions are used, e.g. the ion source may form part of an ion motor.
