Abstract

The magnetic properties of rolled silicon steel sheets containing up to 4.5% Si are improved by annealing at 1100 DEG -1250 DEG C. in a non oxidizing atmosphere containing up to 4% by volume of SiCl4 to increase the Si content up to about 7% and then finally annealing preferably at 1100 DEG -1300 DEG C. The non oxidizing atmosphere is nitrogen or argon and after the final annealing the sheets are heated to 800 DEG C. and cooled at about 100 DEG C. per minute in a magnetic field of about 200 oersteds.
