Abstract

1,082,937. Direct connections. GREAT LAKES CARBON CORPORATION. May 17, 1965 [May 21, 1964], No. 20830/65. Heading H2E. A conducting rod is inserted into a slightly larger recess in the graphite lead-in rod of an electrolytic cell, or in any other carbon block, and connected to it by tamping and pressing a cleansed metallic powder beneath and around the rod. The powder is of lead or of an alloy or mixture of lead and tin, and any oxide films are preferably removed by dilute acetic acid. The graphite lead-in rod may be impregnated with oil or wax before the connection is made.
