Abstract
1,080,073. Printing machines-inking mechanism. J. V. BAILEY and G. C. FORTIN. Feb. 7, 1964 [Feb. 8, 1963], No. 5281/63. Heading B6C. In a rotary intaglio printing machine ink is applied to the cylinder 12 by the mechanism 16 prior to an initial wiping action by a moving endless belt arrangement 17 which is similar to that described in Fig. 3 of Specification 335,026. The cylinder is finally wiped by a continuously moving web of paper 20 which is pressed against the cylinder by an endless rubber band 21 and which moves in a direction opposed to that of the cylinder surface. The contacting pressure of the paper 20 is adjusted through adjustment of the tension in the band 21, which is effected by adjustment of an idler roller 24. The belt 21, roller 24 and belt drive rollers 22, 23, which are driven by an electric motor, are mounted in a frame spring-loaded towards the cylinder 12. For monochrome intaglio printing the speed of the wiping paper 20 may be 30 feet per minute whilst that of the cylinder surface is 100 feet per minute. The arrangement 17 may be replaced by a doctor blade.
