Abstract
1,077,791. Respirators. SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEFENCE. Jan. 2, 1964 [Oct. 2, 1962], No. 37288/62. Heading AST. A respirator comprises a rubber mask body 1 having a rim seal comprising a rubber flap 5 hinged inwardly from the mask body 1 and a detachable foamed rubber strip or pad 6 which is positioned between the flap 5 and mask body 1 such that in use the sealing flap 5 is pressed by the pad 6 against the face of the user. The side of the pad 6 positioned against the flap 5 is convex. The mask is provided with a non return valve system comprising two flap valves 10 and 11 spaced at such a distance that any outside air entering the space 12 between valves 10, 11 as a result of dynamic leakage through the outer valve 10, is unable to reach and pass the inner valve 11 before the inner valve has closed. Air is inhaled through a breathing tube (not shown) having a filter unit, and flap valve 14.
