Abstract

1,191,793. Respiratory masks. 0. H. DRAGER [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR. & BERNH DRAGER], 14 June, 1968 J14 June, 1967], No. 28597/68. Heading A5T. A respiratory mask has an integral face seal, comprising outer and inner sealing projections 2, 4 which define a space 5 arranged to receive exhaled gas from. the mask, and an exhalation aperture 8 leading from the space. The mask may be only single-walled and provided at its rim with sealing projections 2 and 4, or it may be double-walled only in the region of said projections. Exhalation gas outlet aperture 7 interconnects interior 6 and space 5 and' outer wall .1 has gas outlet aperture 8. Non-return exhalation valves may be provided in said apertures. Walls 3 and 1 merge in the region of mount 11 for the edge of window 12, or each wall may have a window so that space 5 extends over the window area. At inhalation air is "drawn in through union 9 .and valve 10 and at exhalation' air flows from interior 6 through aperture 7 and space 5 to outlet 8. Aperture 7 'may be dispensed with, in which case the exhalation valve between interior 6 and space 5 is formed by lip 4. When the seal is formed' of a gas-pervious material, exhalation gas flow outwardly over the entire seal from space 5 and outlet 8 may be dispensed with. An additional exhalation valve may be arranged at the underside of the 'mask so that only part of the exhalation: gas is discharged through space 5. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the mask is provided with a window washing arrangement.
