Abstract

1,075,829. Printing apparatus. MIEHLEGOSS-DEXTER Inc. Dec. 11, 1964 [Dec. 26, 1963], No. 50637/64. Heading B6C. Apparatus, Fig. 7, for securing a flexible printing plate or blanket 11 to the periphery of a cylinder 10 provided with a longitudinal groove 13 comprises a supporting jaw member 44, a co-operating jaw member 45, spring means 47 urging the member 45 towards the member 44, spring means 46 urging the member 44 in a sheet tensioning direction towards the member 45, control means for displacing the member 44 away from the member 45, and legs, Fig. 4 (not shown), formed on the body 45a of the jaw member 45 and adapted to limit the movement of said member towards the member 44 by engaging a rail member 16 within the groove 13, the arrangement being such that initial operation of the control means displaces both jaw members until the said legs engage the member 16, whereafter the jaws are separated to release the plate or blanket, and further operation re-engages the jaws and allows them to move into a plate tensioning position. A plurality of co-operating jaw members is disposed longitudinally within the groove and the control means includes a plunger 50 attached to each jaw member 44 and a shaft 60 which is provided with cam surfaces 65 aligned with the heads 51 of the plungers. The other end, i.e. the leading end, of the plate or blanket 11 is secured by a reference jaw member 24, Fig. 6, and a plurality of clamping jaws 25, each jaw 25 being urged by a spring 26 towards the member 24. Cam surfaces 63 on the shaft 60 are arranged to engage the beads 31 of plungers 30 secured to the jaws 25 to open these jaws subsequent to the opening of the jaws clamping the trailing edge. The jaw member 24 may be moved to effect peripheral or skewing adjustment of the plate for registration purposes, Fig. 10 (not shown) by moving two blocks such as 72 provided with pins engaging the base 24a of the jaw member in the same direction or by moving them towards or away from one another.
