Abstract

1,120,664. Printing surfaces. HEIDELBERGER DRUCKMASCHINEN A.G. 18 March, 1966 [20 March, 1965], No. 11941/66. Heading B6C. A quick release clamping device for clamping flexible printing plates in position on printing cylinders comprises an upper clamping bar 5 pivotal with respect to a lower clamping bar 3 and adapted by means of a rotating cam 15 and compression springs 13 to be tilted into an open position (Fig. 3) or a closed position Fig. 1, the whole clamping unit being displaceable towards or away from the periphery of the printing cylinder by means of a cam acting against a spring, and in which upper clamping bar has an extension 6 which engages in a recess 10 in the lower clamping bar to effect pivoting of the upper bar and is adapted to be equally tilted throughout the whole length of the clamping bar unit and restrained by a wall of the recess. In a preferred form (Fig. 3) the upper clamping bar has a bearing shoulder (11) engaged behind a correspondingly formed supporting shoulder (8) on the lower clamping bar. Preferably the engaging surfaces of upper and lower bars (e.g. 11 and 12-Fig. 4) are disposed on the plane of the line of contact between the bars. The compression springs 13 in the bearing recess urge the engaging surfaces e.g. 11 and 12 of the upper and lower bars together and hold the upper clamping bar against the rotating cam. The upper bar may be resilient. The lower clamping bar 3 slides on surface 4. A tension device is connected with the clamping device by means of bolt 25 screwed into the rear wall of bar 3. The bolt projects through a bore of a supporting wall 26. Compression spring 27 urges the tension bolt in a plate tensioning direction. Angle iron 28 (Fig. 2) connects the tension bolts of two juxtaposed but independently guided identical clamping devices. Adjusting eccentric 30 has an axle projecting through slots (31 Fig. 2) of connecting member 28 such that when rotated the devices are slid via connecting part 28 against the springs 27 and towards the edge of the cylinder thus enabling the printing plate to be attached to the gripping device. Two eccentrics (32 and 33 Fig. 2) of identical construction are provided one on each side of eccentric 30 to effect individual movement of the devices.
