Abstract

A sintered body comprises 12.5 - 72% of titanium carbide, of which up to 50% may be replaced by one or more carbides of metals of Groups IV to VI of the Periodic Table, in a matrix of a steel which is hardenable by the transformation of austenite and which contains 0.5 to 3% of copper. The alloy may be hardened by quenching in oil from 950 DEG to 1100 DEG C. and then reheated at least once to between 150 DEG to 500 DEG C.
