Abstract

A hardenable alloy produced by powder metallurgy consists of 18-35% carbide (based on the total composition) embedded in a steel matrix containing 0.2-0.8%C., the carbide consisting of titanium carbide and 0.80% chromium carbide. The alloy may be produced by grinding the components to 2-5m , compacting, sintering in vacuo, annealing, and then water quenching from a temperature of 800 DEG -900 DEG C. The alloy is used for the production of tools (of which several types are specified).
