Abstract

1359967 Electro-phoretic coating GENERAL MOTORS CORP 21 Dec 1972 [24 March 1972] 59039/72 Heading C7B A metallic article, e.g. a gear, spline, screw or bolt, is provided on at least its wear surface with an adherent, abrasion resistant, solid surface-lubricant coating at least 0À0005 inch thick comprising 60 to 73wt per cent Ag and balance Nb Te 2 , preferably applied electrophoretically from a coating bath of a solution of 55-65wt per cent isopropanol and 35-45wt per cent nitromethane to which is added 15 to 20 g/l Ag powder and 7À5 to 10 g/l Nb Te 2 powder and 1À5 to 3À5 g/l cobalt nitrate-prolamine protein as binder. The article may be of refractory and heat resistant metal or alloy; e.g. Mo, Nb, W, Ta, Ti or alloy thereof; ferritic, martensitic or anstinitic steel containing 12-27% Cr or 25-40% Ni. Other alloys are Specified.
