Abstract

1,073,760. Treating textile articles of synthetic polymers. L. ARNAUD and C. GRANGE. Oct. 28, 1964 [April 15, 1964], No. 44021/64. Heading B5B. Textile articles of synthetic polymers, particularly threads, are treated by immersing them while free from tension in a bath to remove impurities, heat-setting them by heating them while free from tension and thereafter subjecting them to further heat-setting treatment while they are under sufficient tension to stretch them. The bath may be an aqueous solution of ammonia, trisodium phosphate and one or more polyphosphates maintained at 50‹ to 80‹ C. The first heat-setting treatment may be effected by immersing the article while free from tension in a heated aqueous liquid at a temperature below its boiling point or at a temperature above its boiling point in an autoclave. Alternatively the first heat-setting treatment may be effected in hot air or a hot gas. The first heatsetting step may be effected at 90‹ to 150‹ C. The second heat-setting step may be effected in the case of threads and bundles of filaments by passing them through a heating zone while they are being stretched between feed and draw rolls. The heating zone may comprise a first short zone in which the filaments are heated to 220‹ to 300‹ C. and a longer zone in which they are heated from 220‹ to 250‹ C.
